Since the company was founded we have had ongoing relationships with organizations that support people with disabilities. We are particularly proud our relationships with Goodwill Industries of Hartford-Springfield" and Goodwill Industries of Hartford-Springfield" . As suppliers to Salamander their clients provide hardware packaging and sub-assembly service for our company.
We believe in the power of work. There is great pride when people can contribute and earn a paycheck. We find these relationships fulfilling and meaningful.
Our Green initiative emphasizes environmentally responsible manufacturing.
We constantly challenge ourselves to minimize the consumption of natural resources whether it's product packaging or the electricity that we consume in our factory.
In an effort to reduce our carbon footprint and energy usage we have upgraded all of the lighting in our 85,000 SF facility to high efficiency light fixtures with energy saving automatic sensors. We are also pursuing a plan that will take us of the grid completely with new Solar (photovoltaic) power generating options.
In several cases we have worked with our suppliers to design transport packaging which allows us to return for reuse instead of throwing more in the landfill. When reuse isn't an option, we have programs for recycling byproducts of our manufacturing including Wood, Steel, Aluminum and Corrugated packaging and office paper.
All of our furniture products are made of sustainable materials that will stand the test of time. Our woods are harvested from managed forestry programs and all composite materials comply with rigorous certification standards. Our furniture frames are made from energy-efficient recycled aluminum. Advanced, environmentally friendly finishes and coatings meet or exceed the most stringent air quality standards. In fact, Salamander has partnered with pioneers of the wood finishing industry. Our wood coating technologies include powder coat finishes as well as UV coatings on components. For example, the carbon footprint of a powder coated wood part is less than 20% of a traditional solvent-based finish. The best part is that these coating are not only eco-friendly but incredibly durable, a true win-win.
As proud members of the Sustainable Furnishings Council, we continually seek alternative methods of reducing our overall impact on the environment. It’s part of our responsibility as good corporate citizens.
